Growing up in Hermanus, with Sparks Esterhuysen, a well-known adventurer, as his dad, it was only natural that Henk developed a passion for the outdoors and spending quality time in nature.

While still in school, Henk would accompany his dad as he guided guests on overland 4×4 trips and multi-day hikes across Southern Africa. After matriculating from Paul Roos High School and taking a gap year to travel and surf around Indonesia, Henk officially joined See-en-Sand as his dad’s assistant.

It was only a matter of time before he was heading up 4×4 trips and managing the gap year student programme. During the years he worked alongside and learnt from Sparks, it became evident that Henk had inherited his natural gift as a born leader and educator.

If you’ve ever met Henk in person, you’ll know that he’s passion about spending time in the ocean, either surfing or fishing, and inspiring South Africa’s youth to become confident individuals.

It’s exactly this passion that’s enabled him to successfully take over the ropes from his dad in 2010 and continue to drive the success of the family business.
